Shopping & markets in Tulln and surroundings

Shopping fun against an historical backdrop

Stroll through the historical center of town. Immerse yourself in the lively markets and meet up with your friends. All the while, enjoy the flair of historical architecture. Shopping in Tulln is as much a shopping experience as it is an exciting discovery tour where you encounter both the traditional and the modern.

“You need a hundred eyes if you purchase something” as the old German saying goes. In Tulln, desirable objects are not the only things you’ll set your eyes on. You will see plenty of remarkable buildings as well. Here historical architecture meets its modern counterpart. And in the process creates a special atmosphere that lends this traditional center of commerce new life.

Great change of pace, simple as that

You should schedule enough time for your shopping trip in Tulln. Hauptplatz is the main square and the “living room” of the locals. It is also a perfect place to stroll and shop, enjoy a glass of Veltliner wine in a street café or sample a piece of Schiele torte in one of the venerable confectionery and fine pastry shops. The Rosenarcade is a downtown shopping mall featuring modern variety. But there is also much to explore on the other streets in the center of the city – especially traditional handicrafts and other businesses with local specialties. In the process you happen upon the cultural treasures of Danube City, from the historical Abbey of the Friars Minor to a Renaissance building with Venetian crenellations.

Tulln open-air markets

Food markets, farmer’s markets, annual fairs and much, much more – when the stallholders start setting up on Hauptplatz, this main square becomes a vibrant and lively market zone. You can look forward to tasty delicacies and superb vintages to please the palate and bargains to please your budget.

All year long, Hauptplatz is transformed every Friday into the culinary Naschmarkt, where regional farmers offer their fresh products. Every first Friday of the month during the warm season, arts and crafts are added to the mix. On Saturdays the weekly farmer’s market is staged in the Holzschuh Passage.

Market time is bargain time

The regularly scheduled handicraft markets and traditional Simoni and Georgi Markets are popular among locals and visitors alike. In the spring and summer, the historical center is transformed one Sunday each into a huge city flea market and a genuine paradise for bargain hunters. A real must-see-and-do in the winter is the Advent Village complete with ice-skating rink, ice curling and down-home cooking.
